Frequently Asked Questions.
Here are some common questions about ProGrade Digital.
Who is ProGrade Digital?
ProGrade digital is the professional’s source for high-performance memory cards and workflow accessories. Whether you shoot with a DSLR, camcorder or a digital cinema camera, we have the memory cards that match your requirements for performance, quality, and reliability.
Is ProGrade Digital a new company?
While the company is new, ProGrade Digital’s founders are former executives from Lexar, where they held executive or senior management positions in corporate, engineering, operations, and marketing. The Lexar brand was recently sold by Micron, Inc. so it could focus on providing storage for enterprise businesses. ProGrade Digital’s founding team has more than 60 years of combined experience in the design and development of memory cards. The team is leveraging its years of experience and long-term industry relationships to deliver memory cards with uncompromising performance, quality, and reliability. Most of the founding executives have also held leadership roles at SanDisk, creating industry standards for removable storage such as CompactFlash and PCMCIA, and helped to build its memory card business into the retail powerhouse that it is today. The experience of the management team and its level of industry relationships uniquely positions ProGrade Digital for success as it delivers uncompromising performance, quality, and reliability.
What’s the difference between professional-level and consumer-level cards?
Professional photographers tend to be meticulous about their cameras and equipment since their livelihood, client trust, and reputation are riding on how well their gear performs. ProGrade Digital understands these stringent requirements and offers memory cards and workflow readers with the performance, quality, and reliability that professionals demand. Performance: To provide extremely fast card speeds, Prograde Digital cards use memory controllers designed by Silicon Motion, a long-time controller manufacturer for Lexar. These controllers are highly optimized for use in professional cameras. Quality: Prograde Digital leverages years of experience working closely with professional DSLR and video camera manufacturers to ensure its cards pass rigorous qualification testing. Its compatibility testing labs tests cards in thousands of different camera models to assure compliance with camera manufacturers’ requirements, and support and compatibility with specific camera models. As an industry first, every Prograde Digital card features serialized tracking. After each card is assembled, it is then laser-etched with a unique serial number for traceability and warranty-tracking. Reliability: Prograde Digital goes to great lengths to ensure each card is individually tested down to each memory chip. This is a far more time-consuming and rigorous process than the sample testing that other card manufacturers do. By the time our cards hit the market, they have gone through hours of testing, so you have the highest level of assurance that your card will perform flawlessly.
I’ve heard a lot about the speed of the card but it’s confusing. What do I need to know about it?
Card speeds are important to the overall performance of your camera. Here are three areas to pay attention to: Transfer speed: how quickly data (images or video) can be downloaded from the card. Faster transfer speeds take less time to import photos or ingest video to your computer. Write speed: how a card performs in a camera. Most camera manufacturers do not disclose this exact specification. Instead, they simply specify the speed class rating their camera requires. Speed class: Professional-level cameras typically require the newer Ultra High Speed (UHS or UHS-II) categories described as U1 (10-megabytes per second) or U3 (30-megabytes per second). It’s best to match the speed of the memory card to the requirements of your camera.
Which memory card formats do you offer? Capacities? Prices?
